What does JROTC stand for?
-Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps
If I sign up for JROTC, will I be required to join the Military?

isn't. It is an educational leadership development course. JROTC
does not require any military obligation. Joining the military is a purely
voluntary and a personal option. The majority of JROTC students never join the
military.
"The mission of JROTC is to motivate young people to be better citizens."
-Every cadet in JROTC is taught this motto and is expected to exemplify this
daily. The instructors encourage students to pursue college as the number
one choice after High School. JROTC instructors are not recruiters for any
military service branch.
Do I have to wear a uniform in JROTC?
-Yes. Every student in JROTC wears their uniform once a week on Wednesday.
Do I have to pay for my JROTC uniform?

program. There is no cost for uniform, ribbons, medals, belts, shoes, shirt, or pants.
Are there any requirements I must meet in order to sign up for JROTC?

How does JROTC fit into my 4 year plan for High School?
-JROTC is one of the many electives that can be taken by students. As such, they
receive the same academic credit as any other elective course at the
school.
Why should I take JROTC, when I can take P.E. and Health for just a year?
-That is a good question. But there is no right answer. Everyone who goes
through JROTC has a different experience, different things they liked and
disliked, just like any other class. A popular saying that we have in
JROTC is “Your Experience is What You Make It.” And it is true.
The only way to answer that is for you to see for yourself.
Does a student have to be a Freshman to start out in a JROTC course?
-No. A student can be in any grade and join JROTC.
Can I take JROTC for more than 1 semester and still graduate?
-Yes. JROTC will continue to count as an elective credit and any student that is
passing all required subject to graduate can stay in the program all 4 years of
high school.
If I intend to join the military after High School, will being in JROTC help me in
any way?
-Yes. The discipline and leadership experience you gain in JROTC reflect you as an
individual, and that deserves merit. However, in order for you to gain the
benefits of this recognition you will need at least three years of JROTC on your
transcript. If you decide to enlist, you will automatically receive an
increase in grade and rank; meaning that once you enter Basic Training, you will
already be a Private First Class or E-3. However we do encourage you to
first consider applying to a military academy or taking a Senior JROTC program
in college to become an officer, as the benefits will be greater.
Will a job or other commitment after school keep me from being in JROTC?
-No. Any after school activities, such as teams, are completely optional. These
activities do however give the cadet practice in leadership.
Are the JROTC instructors active military or regular teachers?
-All JROTC instructors are retired after 20 or more years of honorable service in the
military. These personnel have been through a selection process and certified to
teach JROTC by the government and are recognized as certified teachers (for
JROTC) by most all states to include Georgia.
